DATA WING is a neon arcade racer, featuring a deep and evolving narrative. The racing gameplay is familiar and compelling but the real draw for players is learning more about the world in which they find themselves.

In this article, I outline a number of practical techniques I employed to make DATA WING more welcoming for a broad range of players and the extended playtesting process that informed these choices. While I wrote this article with the intention to demystify playtesting and tutorialising, I believe it also provides useful insight into my process and values.
